The Girl you left behind - JoJo Moyes

“The Girl you left behind” is actually one of my favourite books. The main story is about young widow – Liv, who lost everything. When the bailiff wants to take the painting of young red woman, which was a wedding gift from her husband, Liv starts to fight. Not only for a painting but also for her happiness. The second storyline is more complicated. The plot takes place in France during World War I. Sophie Lefèvre must keep her family safe while her adored husband, Édouard, fights at the front. When their town falls to the Germans, Sophie is forced to serve them every evening at her hotel. From the moment the new Kommandant sets eyes on Sophie’s portrait—painted by her artist husband—a dangerous obsession is born.
This is definitely a woman fiction. “The Girl you left behind” shows us that the woman are strong and powerful. And they were like that ages ago, we just have to see this.
When I was reading it, Liv’s storyline was sometimes boring to me, Sophie was more courage, more independent, more powerful. Comparing to Sophie, Live is boring and weak. Until we see her change. When she finds out about Sophie she is so determinated to fight for herself. And probably this fascinated me the most – how weak person becomes strong. Liv can be any of us.
